General types of bonuses
A little background is needed before getting to the specifics. As a consequence, we ensure that our players get to understand the bonuses better than what they may perceive!
The bonuses will largely be divided into two general forms which include;
As the name would suggest, this type of bonus stands out for one major reason. There is no deposit required and in many cases, after successful registration, the casino will award this bonus in different forms. Some casinos may opt to offer free spins to players while others may offer dollar bonuses. A point to note is that this type of bonus is not of high-value. But that notwithstanding, what would be a better way to start gambling by having a bonus offered after successful sign-up? It is worth mentioning that in some cases the bonuses are called free bets.
This is another type of bonus available in many Canadian casinos. In this type of bonus you can expect a requirement to fulfil. In such instances a deposit will be required to trigger the bonus. That means that if you do not make any deposit, then the bonus will not be released. Contrary to the no-deposit bonus, this type of bonus is of high-value. In most cases, you will find out that the deposit will be matched up to a certain percentage. The bonuses may come in the form of dollars attached with free spins or purely as dollars.
In all these bonuses, the T&Cs are crucial if you are to get the full value of the bonuses. So what are these general T&Cs?
Terms and conditions to look out for
With all the fun in the bonuses, players tend to ignore some important factors. At Casinomatcher, we have ensured that you understand them for a great experience!
We have talked about T&Cs a lot but we want to emphasize further. These are the most common T&Cs you will come across;
- Eligibility – Casinos have two types of players. New and existing players. And to attract and retain players, the promotions will be tailored to the two types of players. Existing players will be ineligible to access the new players’ bonuses and vice versa.
- Promo codes – Some bonuses will be redeemed via tailored promo codes while others will not require any codes.
- Limits – For deposit bonuses, you have to note the minimum deposit required and for all bonuses, you need to note the maximum bonus you can win.
- Wagering requirements – These are the requirements set of the number of times you need to play through the bonuses before a withdrawal is completed (we shall expound on this further.
- Games eligible – Some bonuses may be tailored for specific games and this is a section to pay close attention to.
- Validity – The bonuses are not there to stay for eternity folks! There is a valid period as to which you should fulfil the wagering requirements and as to when you should play with the bonus.
We promised to expand on this and we always hold to our word so here you go!
So what are wagering requirements? This is a common term you will come through while accessing the bonuses. In other casinos, they will be referred to as playthrough requirements or rollover requirements. This is always the catch in the bonuses. Some bonuses seem too sweet to be true. Well, here is the reason; they are requirements set on the bonuses where you have to play the bonus, deposit, or both several times (as stated). This will ensure the bonus money or bonus winnings are transformed from virtual cash to withdrawable cash. Sounds complex? Let’s get a little further.
For example, a platform may award a bonus of CA$50 and set wagering requirements of 30x on the bonus. This simply requires you to wager the bonus thirty times (30x) before the money can be withdrawn. A CA$50 bonus in our case is the virtual cash. After fulfilling the requirements, that is CA$50 x 30 = CA$1,500, the bonus will then be ready for withdrawal.
Another twist comes in. Most casinos have put up different game weightings. What do we mean? Different games in the casino will contribute differently. Slots in most cases carry the best weight. A casino may put up the weightings as follows;
- Slots – 100%
- Table Games – 50%
- Video Poker – 25%
- All other games – 0%
This will mean if you wager CA$1 on a slot, it will count as 100% towards fulfilling the requirements and so on!

Also referred to as the signup bonus, the welcome bonus is arguably the most common and yet most sort after bonus. It plays a crucial part in attracting new players in a casino. This is the catch and most casinos know this hence, the provision of high-value bonuses and attractive incentives. The welcome bonus can either be a no-deposit bonus, a deposit bonus or both depending on the casino. With different welcome bonuses, let’s see what type of welcome bonus to expect in the Canadian casinos;
This is mostly offered after a successful sign-up and come in either of the two forms;
As the name suggests, these are spins given freely to try some of the slots with a possibility of winning real money. Some may require you to fulfil the wagering requirements while others will not.
Other platforms offer real money to try out their games but they are normally low at a range of CA$% – CA$20.
Note: There will be no deposit required in this type of bonus
This is another type of bonus where your deposit will be matched up to a certain bonus. The bonus will be a percentage of the deposit which the casino will specify. One can get a 50% bonus, 75%, 100%, 150%, or even 200%. This means that if you joined a platform offering a 100% bonus and deposited $50, you will be awarded another $50 to use on the platform. Some casinos have gone a step further and added free spins which can be given in phases of days or as a wholesome.
Some platforms will also offer free bets but this time, it will be dependent on the deposit. They will require you to make a deposit. For example, a platform may require a deposit of at least CA$50 to get two CA$10 free bets to play on casino games. This, however, is not so common in many of the Canada casinos we have reviewed.
Note; The bigger the bonus does not always mean the better! Always remember the terms and conditions attached to the bonuses!
